Dear Friends of Jack London,

Spain Street in Sonoma. For direction, please visit ramekins.com and click on Maps & Directions. A non-host bar will open at 6 pm followed by a buffet dinner at 7pm.

We are pleased to announce that our Man of the Year will be Joe Lawrence. Joe has been associated with the Jack London Foundation for the past 25+ years, serving as the roles of Secretary, Treasurer, Co-chairman of our annual Jack London writing contest as well as co-editor of the quarterly JLF Newsletter. He has also been recently appointed Honorary Member of Jack London Society Board.

Our speaker for this evening will be Jonah Raskin. Jonah is the editor of The Radical Jack London: Writings on Revolution And War (University of California Press). For thirty years, Raskin was a professor at Sonoma State University where he taught classes on Jack London, the wilderness in American literature, media law and marketing. Raskin also reviews books and writes articles for "The San Francisco Chronicle". Jonah’s presentation is The Valley of the Moon: Jack London’s Masterpiece of Modern Love.

The Foundation is very appreciative of the generosity of Board member, Darius Anderson, who donates the use of Ramekins for our annual birthday celebration. Cost for the banquet will be $60 for Foundation members and their guests; non-members are $80. To encourage young people into the world of Jack London, we offer a special price of $35 for high school students. Please encourage a young friend or family member to join us!

Space is limited, so please make your reservations early. Remember that if you would like someone to share your table, please have them make reservations at the same time. Seating is reserved according to receipt of check.

The banquet is both a time to honor Jack London’s birthday and to have a great time meeting new people and reconnecting with old friends. Please purchase your tickets today. You will be glad you did! Checks should be made payable to the Jack London Foundation. Complete JLF Banquet registration form (enclosed) and mail to Jack London Foundation, P.O. Box 337, Glen Ellen, CA 95442. VALLEY OF THE MOON NATURAL HISTORY ASSOCIATION

2400 London Ranch Road, Glen Ellen, CA 95442

Dear member of the Jack London Foundation,

As you know, the Valley of the Moon Natural History Association took over management of the Jack London State Historic Park after entering into an operating agreement with the State of California to prevent it’s being closed to the public. We have been developing programs and activities to attract an increased number of visitors who attend the Park. Our aim is to make the Park more of an integral community resource with programs that provide opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy the outdoors in a beautiful and natural setting.

We are pleased to offer special events to coincide with the Jack London Foundation Birthday Banquet being held on January 19, 2013. The events we will host are as follows:

Saturday, January 19th :

  • 9:00 am docent-led hike on trails of the park
  • 11:00 am docent-led tour of the House of Happy Walls, the Wolf House Ruins, and the gravesite
  • Sunday, January 20th

  • 10:00 am docent-led tour of the Beauty Ranch with emphasis on Jack London’s experiments in sustainable agriculture
  • 11:30 am tour and wine tasting at Benziger Winery – leaders in biodynamic farming and wine production—located just down Jack London Ranch Road from the Park.
  • If the above activities sound good to you, please save these dates. A complete listing of hike leaders, meeting locations, and other logistical details will be provided after the first of the year on our website at http://www.jacklondonpark.com/. You may also call the park for further information at 707-938-5216.

We look forward to partnering with the Jack London Foundation to help make your gathering to celebrate Jack London’s 137th birthday a memorable one. It will be our pleasure to introduce you to our new vision for the Park without the constraints of limited government funding.

    Sincerely,

    Tjiska Van Wyk
    Executive Director
